The battle continues! This week we are focusing on our Kings Landing section of the bracket and there are key characters involved with this group.
arya stark (6) vs lord varys (11)
Arya has gone through perhaps the biggest change from the beginning of the show until now. She has learned from the faceless men, and maybe even learned more from The Hound, but of anyone of the main characters, she might have the biggest realm of possible outcomes. Who is killing her? Seriously, would you put anyone as the favorite over her in a fight? Could she end up on the Iron Throne? She could with her Stark bloodline, but also could using Cersei’s dead face to do it. We haven’t seen a Jon and Arya reunion yet, but when the fighting starts you know that big brother Jon isn’t going to let her anywhere near it. That isn’t going to sit well with her, right? Arya has a tendency to do what she wants and of all the possible plots they will finish in the final season, her list is the one thing that gets paid off for sure. I mean it has to right?! For several seasons she and the show have talked about it, so now that we’re ending they aren’t going to pay that off? I say no way that happens.
My thoughts are Jon tells her to stay away, Arya decides to go take care of another problem for everyone, and she ends up in Kings Landing to finish her list….aka Cersei Lannister…..faceless man style. What I’m super hopeful for is The Hound finding out about this and going her so he can face off against The Mountain. A Hound/Arya reunion tour across Westeros would make for excellent viewing. Please, please, please let that happen. In the end, nobody can keep a secret from Arya, nobody is taking her out one on one, but what does she actually want? She’s not going to be Lady Stark and just stay in Winterfell after it’s over. She doesn’t want the Iron Throne even though she could probably make it there. My guess is that she ends the threat from Cersei, sends a letter to Jon, and disappears to live her life on her own…..or with The Hound as BFF killing machines.
I’ll admit that I have no clue what Varys is going to do during the last season. He can’t fight, he’s still super sketchy to me, and I’m not sure anyone really trusts him. His little birds don’t mean shit when the dead ride on the North, I’m not sure any of them help him while in the North with Arya there to make sure shit doesn’t go sideways, and what is he going to do when they ride on Cersei……I just don’t know. Does he stay with the women? Does he say fuck it and take up a sword? Does the Red Priestess start some shit with him and that ends badly? I literally don’t have a single concrete plan for him going into the final season. You could tell me that he walks out of the window like King Potato did and you could tell me that he joins the Unsullied Army and ends up being a badass and I would believe either. I know that he has dreams of the Iron Throne, but that shit isn’t happening. The time for little birds and the spider and whispers are done. This is about war, son! My best guess is that he hides for a bit and ends up on the small council for the person left. Yawn.
The winner is Arya and it’s not close.
cersei lannister (3) vs euron greyjoy (14)
Game of Thrones is about good versus evil, much like any other show, but unlike any other show the bad guys have spent a number of years in charge of shit. Cersei isn’t some chump that is just going to roll over. She is #smartAF and as ruthless as they come, so she’s not going to just chill and wait on the carnage to end in the North and then start shit back up again. Jamie there or not, Cersei has a big army that is going to get bigger and she is going to send them to sneak attack everyone. I’m sure of it. Cersei Lannister might be the actual best ruler that we’ve seen on the Iron Throne so far. Robert sucked as a king, Joffrey was a piece of shit, and King Potato was worthless.
Cersei took the throne and depending on what side you are on has protected the crown better than anyone before her. She had a plan for the religious nuts taking her to task, she had a plan for dragons that will just get better, and she’s got some really good people on her side. Her small council is essentially the most conniving fucker in Westeros and Zombie Mountain. That’s formidable. I don’t know how she’s taken out, even though Arya is my best guess, but she’s not going down without a fight. Would her and Jamie, the longest lasting relationship on GOT, ending up together ruling the Seven Kingdom’s count as a bittersweet ending? Yep. She’s the 3 seed for a reason, don’t sleep on her by any means.
Against just about anyone else, Euron makes for a formidable opponent. What has he really done though? He took out like the 4th best brother/sister combo on the show. Beat the Sand Snakes who were at sea. He snuck out to go get an army for Cersei. He has grand plans to marry into the crown and then take it over by murder, but do you really think he’s going to accomplish that with Cersei and her crew standing guard? He’s going to try, but they are going to know it every step of the way, and The Mountain is going to straight fuck him up. Euron has a little too much Negan in him for me to worry about him. You know he’s supposed to be a feared bad guy, but I don’t believe him at all. Maybe that’s writing, maybe that’s casting, or maybe it’s always meant to be like that, but I don’t and he’s not going to do shit once he’s back with Cersei’s army. He’s getting killed and not making it.
The Winner is Cersei as if there was any doubt.
